No other city symbolizes America, „The New World“, to us Europeans like New York, „The City That Never Sleeps“. The Statute of Liberty, „Lady Liberty“, as it’s called by the Americans, is for us the personification of America. When we think of America, we also think automatically of New York – that’s the same to me. It would be easily possible to spend two weeks in this city and you still wouldn’t have seen everything what’s there to see.
I’ve been to New York from August 1 to August 3, 2017. At first, my bus from State College to New York was late over an hour, but I wasn’t too unhappy about that because Brett, Bryan, a friend of the both and I had left a bit late from home. If the bus would have been on time, I might have missed it.
When I arrived in New York, I had at first to orient myself and to find the youth hostel, as in every other city I didn’t know before. After I had managed this step and I had checked in and had moved into my dormitory, I was tired and went to bed quite soon.
The next day, I first went to Times Square.
Times Square extends for miles and miles along the 7th Avenueanf merges into Broadway. As you can see on the pictures, there are so many people. It’s really fascinating to float with the stream of people. Everywhere there are stores where in front of mascot dressed people walk around, sightseeing tours are offered, and at every street corner hotdogs are available. The side streets of Times Square are very crowded, too.

There you can find theaters and movie theaters and other things – or parking lots like the one in the picture above.
Or those two guys here:

After I had bought some postcards, I went back to my youth hostel to get my ferry ticket for Ellis Island where the Statue of Liberty is situated. But I didn’t manage this punctually because first it rained very hard and then my subway suddenly went express and didn’t stop at my station any more. Instead I took the free ferry to Staten Island. During which I could understand how the immigrants reaching New York after crossing of the Atlantic Ocean must have felt. It’s a really impressive feeling to see the skyline of Manhattan, that’s the moment when you can really imagine how big the city is.
On Staten Island I searched for a viewpoint to see the Statue of Liberty. I unfortunately didn’t find one, and the statue generally wasn’t really well visible, because it was quite cloudy that day.
Back in Manhattan, I went for a short time to Central Park, before I went back to the hostel.
And now I just put some pictures, because it’s impossible to describe New York, you have to experience it!
