For the last week of my stay in the USA, I moved to another family in Lititz, Pennsylvania, which is about two hours away from Philadelphia.
Lititz has a bit less than 10,000 inhabitants and is situated in Lancaster County. The town is surrounded by farmland, which is farmed by the Mennonites and the Amish. It’s grown much of corn and soy beans, but also specialised crops like strawberrys and grapes.
Last Thursday, on August 14, 2017, we, that means Samantha, her parents Melonni and Tom, and I, went together to Pittsburgh to take Samantha back to college. In the US, end of August is the time when everyone reuturns back from home to college after summer break, which lasts from the beginning of May to the end of August.
The most noticable landmark of Pittsburgh University, shortly called „Pitt“, is the „Cathedral of Learning“.

The Cathedral of Learning is not a church, but a classroom building with a library. Its building style is adapted from the style of gothic churches. Another speciality is, that every classroom is designed in a nationality- specific style. For example, there is an Italian Room, a French Room, and also a German Room.
This German Room is an adaption of a classroom of the University of Heidelberg, and was dedicated in 1938. On the windows there are pictured some of Grimm’s fairy tales, e.g. the Froschkönig, Schneewittchen and some more.

In the evening, we went home to Derrick, Samantha’s brother, because I should spend the night at his place. He lives in a former Highschool, which was changed to a residence hall. His appartment, in which he lives with two other guys, is situated directly under the roof terrace. Of course we all went together on this roof terrace, from where we had a great view on the skyline of Pittsburgh.

The next day, we went to Samantha’s appartment to pick her up there and to take her to the meeting with her Cross Country team. After we had said goodbye to her, her parents showed me some places in Pittsburgh, before we went home again.
